Often times we try so hard to focus on the best products to treat our acne problems that we forget about the subtle things that may cause or aggravate this condition. Here are 4 habits that you can incorporate into your lifestyle that will change your skin for the good.
1. Pick a skincare routine and stick with it
I put this first because it may be the most important. The truth is, when the skin is bombarded with so many different products every day or week, it becomes confused, doesn’t know what to do, and go into panic mode. You don’t want that so incorporate a gentle, effective, simple, skincare routine that works for you. If you’re confused or lost, consult other banishsters, I have read the articles on the blog and they have some great tips to constructing a simple routine. Just keep it gentle and consistent, your skin will thank you.
2. Live healthy (or healthier)
This may seem like a broad and vague tip and that’s because it is. Living healthier can mean a lot of different things for different people. The key is to evaluate. Go to your kitchen and observe what you see. Do you see cases of alcohol, soda, commercial baked goods, cookies, etc.? Well if you do, you might want to change things up if you want to see results. Start slow, eliminate things one by one. I would say start with soda/alcohol then work your way up to substituting cookies and baked goods for say a healthy salad of greens or fruits. Once you start looking for substitutes (healthier ones), I guarantee you that you will discover eating healthier is not as hard as it seems. Before I incorporated healthy living into my life, I never even knew half the foods that I researched for healthy substitutes existed. Also, drink a lot of water. Now that you’ve got your diet down, or maybe you didn’t have to make changes in the first places, move on to exercise. Just do it guys, please. If I were to express how much I love exercise and its numerous benefits, you’d be reading until next year. It lifts your mood, clears the toxins and mind, and makes your physique look better, and who doesn’t want that? Lastly, manage your stress. Do yoga, find a hobby, meditate, do whatever makes you feel good. Your body will praise you.
3. Avoid touching your face
This may seem obvious to you, but you’d be surprised as to how many times you touch your face throughout the day. Your hands pick up so much dirt and grime throughout the day that if you touch you face and your skin could speak, it’d be telling you to back off. Just don’t do it and make a conscious effort not to. It could also tempt you pick and that’s never good. I found that when I stopped touching my face, I broke out less. However I do have the habit of touching my neck a lot and that causes a few minor breakouts for me. So don’t do it and while we’re here on the topic of hands, wash ‘em regularly.
4. Replace your pillowcase every 3 days
It is probably a common tip but still worth mentioning. If you don’t wash your face at night for whatever reason, which you should always do, you transfer all the dirt and grime from your face into your pillowcase. Additionally, oils or products from your hair can transfer to your pillow as well and cause breakouts. So keep it clean and change that pillow every 3 days or even once a week.
