Why do Women Get Oily Skin?
For women, oily skin can be very annoying. Aside from having a shiny face, visible pores also cause bothersome moments. However, we have nothing to do to stop the skin from producing excess sebum because oiliness is basically determined by genetics. The good part is that there are various ways on how to minimize oily skin.
Causes of Oil Flare-ups for Women
Menstrual Cycle and Pregnancy
Every month your body undergoes regular menstrual cycle and fluctuation of hormones. This is the reason why some women are having acne breakouts before their period starts. The variability of hormones stimulates your sebaceous glands to produce more oil.
Emotional and physical stress goads your "fight-or-flight response.” When your body kicks to get your fight on, there is a sudden surge of oil production that makes your skin so oily. Stress is also one of the reasons of acne attack.
Dermatologists say that warmer and humid weather is the time when the pores open larger and the skin excretes more oil from the body.
Frequent and heavy application of makeup exacerbates an oil breakout situation. Cosmetics trap the oil from the pores for a longer period of time. Moreover, tiny particles of makeup enter the pore and mix with oil, dead skin cells and bacteria, thus causing further skin problems such as whiteheads and acne.
How to minimize oily skin
Make it a habit to wash your face on a scheduled basis, preferably two times a day with 10-12 hours apart. Washing your face too often stimulates the oil glands to produce even more sebum. Too much washing dries up your skin. As a consequence, your oil glands compensate to protect your skin by making more oil, thus making your skin oily.
Use lukewarm water
Warm temperature opens up your pores, relaxes your cells and gently treats your skin from blemishes. Washing your face with lukewarm water with facilitate complete cleansing of pores, thus minimizing the appearance of oil in the face. Use cold water for final rinsing to close your pores.
Use facial wash for oily skin
Use the correct cleansing solution specifically designed for oily or acne prone skin. Other cleansers can irritate the skin and cause further damage. Apply oil-free moisturizers and sunscreen to protect the skin from the sun and pollution.
Drink plenty of water
Water is very important to hydrate and keep your skin healthy. 8 glasses of water daily is very essential for your body to maintain your whole wellbeing. Eliminate carbonated and alcoholic beverages from your diet since it will worsen your oily face.
Balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables should be maintained daily to achieve beautiful skin. Proper exercise, stress free routines, and enough rest and sleep will make a big impact in your body.
