Using Makeup to Hide Acne December 04 2016, 0 Comments
As we all know having acne can sometimes be embarrassing and hinder our self-confidence. Though there is no quick fix or overnight remedy to make it instantly go away there is something that can help mask its appearance- that something being makeup.
Makeup, when used correctly, can be a lifesaver when it comes to trying to deal with the unwanted attention pimples bring. And sometimes it can even act as a “double duty” formula and not only conceal but also work to heal the pimples at the same time. For example, there are certain lines that carry “zit zapping” products, products that have formulas specifically for acne-prone skin, and even products that use acne treatment based materials such as salicylic acid. One good example of this being Neutrogena. Neutrogena not only carries actual acne products- such as cleansers and treatments- but it’s also known for its dermatologist approval.
I would also like to give some tips on how and what to use when you are trying to conceal breakouts.
After washing your face and applying any morning acne products it is important to moisturize. Moisturizing is important no matter what type of skin you have because it not only smooths out the skin from the dryness that some acne treatments or just simply the act of cleansing can cause, but it also creates a barrier between your skin and the products you are about to apply.
When choosing a moisturizer it helps to look for one with a decent amount of SPF in it. SPF is what is found in sunscreens and what helps protect you from the sun’s rays. Although a little bit of sun is good for your skin, a lot of it- to the point of sunburn- will not only cause obvious damage to your skin but also darken any acne hyperpigmentation you may have. By finding a moisturizer with SPF, you don’t have to add an extra step to your daily regime and can instead enjoy the two-in-one benefits a good moisturizer can supply.
Primer acts as another barrier but can also help with the appearance of your skin. For example, products such as Benefit Pore-fessional help to fill in and minimize your pores while also smoothing out the texture of your skin.
A good foundation can literally conceal every problem acne has ever left behind. While choosing a foundation it is important to look for one that is non-comedogenic so it doesn’t clog your pores. For ultimate coverage, it is advised to invest in a good makeup brush and then dab the product on to your face using a patting or stippling motion so that you can properly cover your problem areas.
If you still need a little more coverage use concealer. There are many concealer techniques but if you really want to efficiently conceal your acne apply a green concealer (only to the breakout) and then a skin toned concealer over top of it to achieve maximum coverage.
