Top 5 Acne Myths November 07 2016, 0 Comments
If you’ve ever suffered from acne or occasional pimples you know the struggle and stress it can impact on yourself to try and find a cure or something that works best for you. There are so many things we read online about what can help that are well, ridiculous. So here I will be discussing top acne myths that are floating around the internet.
Acne is a problem only teenagers face
I can’t stress this topic enough. SO many individuals believe that acne is something that they will grow out of. They hold onto hope that as soon as they leave their teenage years they won’t have to deal with it in anymore. When in reality adult acne is a very real, very common thing. That’s why it is very important to keep up with skin care throughout adulthood as well.
You have to dry out your acne to heal it.
Many people automatically associate acne with oil production. And how do you fight oil production? Dry it out. False. Many people work by putting very very drying products on their faces in order to help combat oil when in reality your face and your body need that natural oil production to repair and regenerate skin and when you strip your face from those natural oils your body kicks itself into high gear which then in turn, makes your face 10x as oily. There are ways to calm down oil production without completely stripping your face of those natural oils it needs.
The sun will make your acne better.
First off I’d like to start out by saying that the sun has worked wonders for many people (including myself!!) in clearing acne, or at least keeping it at bay. Sun exposure may reduce inflammation in the body but the truth is that over time, the sun breaks down skin collagen, opens pores making your pores more susceptible to blackheads as well as makes your skin more difficult to repair itself which increases your chances of acne scarring, also making your acne scarring more noticeable and darker.
The more you wash your face the less acne you'll have.
I was one of those people back when I first started getting acne that would just wash my face as soon as I thought it was dirty, which was well maybe close to 5 times a day.. There is nothing worse you could do to your face then this. You should only be washing your face 2 times a day at the most, in the morning and in the evening. When you wash your face continuously it strips your face once again of those natural oils it loves so much which in turn leaves your face dull and dehydrated, where it then overcompensates by producing more oil which can clog your pores and lead to further acne breakouts. And besides, who wants to spend that much money on face wash?? Not me!
