A lot of people with acne could actually be unknowingly scaring their face in hopes for their skin to improve. I want to provide you with some precautionary tips on some beauty products that may be doing more harm than good. We are sometimes so desperate to get our skin looking its best as soon as possible that sometimes we don’t listen to our skin and how it may be affected by certain things. Acne is not something that can be beaten quickly and even after active acne has subsided, it does not mean that you should stop caring for your skin. The key to a happy skin is patience and cooperation.

Exfoliators – Yes, these products can damage your skin if used incorrectly or too frequently. If you have active acne, exfoliators must be handled with complete delicacy. Most exfoliators contain little granules which manually exfoliate dead skin cells. However, if you have some spots, the little granules can actually cause spots to rupture and further the spread of bacteria (causing more spots). I recommend that you are extremely delicate when exfoliating and act if you are massaging the target area and not fighting with it.Some people ignore their skin and can over exfoliate until their skin is red and raw. Over exfoliating can cause further hyperpigmentation which is something to be avoided. The recommended exfoliating time period is once every week but everyone’s skin is different. If you feel is if your skin is feeling lackluster and becoming extremely oily then you may try and exfoliate twice a week.

Moisturizers – Everyone has the desire for amazingly soft skin, however rushing to that goal is not always the best option, especially for people with acne. Some moisturizers can actually add the oils on your face that can actually cause more spots because more oil means that your skin is becoming more clogged up. To avoid this problem, I recommend trying natural moisturizers that use vitamins and natural ingredients to improve your skin. For example, a pumpkin enzyme mask has multiple vitamins that can improve your skin's complexion all with completely natural ingredients.

Shampoos and Body Washes – Even though these products are generally looked over as a cause of bad skin, they can definitely be a major culprit in causing skin problems. Most shampoos and body washes have an ingredient in them called SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) that can cause irritation and dryness with your skin leaving it dull. The best solution is to find these products without these ingredients and can be found quite easily online.

The best way to avoid these product mistakes yourself is to simply listen to your skin and avoid products that have bad reputations with previous acne sufferers.
