Oils, Oils, Oils (How To Rejuvenate Your Skin With Natural Oils) February 24 2017, 0 Comments
When I moved away to college, I didn’t understand how the drastically different climate could affect my skin so much. Now, I realize that going from the hot humidity of Austin, Texas to the cold dryness of Chicago, Illinois would not only affect what I wore but also how my skin looked. Chicago’s climate has made my skin dry and dull, so I’ve taken it upon myself to see what oils can benefit my skin as much as save it from the cold winters.
I haven’t tried them all out, but I’ve done some research and I can share with you guys the ones that I look forward to using!
The first is argan oil, which I have used and can testify for when it comes to dry skin. Argan oil has high levels of vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants. The fatty acids promote healthy collagen in the skin.
Second up is avocado oil, which I haven’t used but is said to be very beneficial for dry, itchy, or aging skin. This oil contains vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids which help proper cell function and decreases inflammation.
Next is jojoba oil, which is easily absorbed into our skin because of its similarities to our natural oils. It contains zinc and copper and vitamins B and E which strengthens the skin against dry winds. I haven’t used this particular oil yet, but it’s definitely next on my list!
Lavender oil is great because it combats the dry weather that my skin is exposed to while also controlling sebum production. Lavender oil acts as a natural antiseptic and disinfectant and can also aid in the absorption of active ingredients into the skin.
Olive oil is a big no-brainer when it comes to dry skin, but does wonder for the especially dehydrated skin. It’s very rich in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E and is very similar to the oils naturally produced by our skin. The only downside to olive oil that it’s very heavy and those with acne prone skin should use it in very small doses and quite infrequently.
My second “to try” oil is definitely Rose Hip Seed Oil which is best for uneven pigment in the skin, scars, fine lines, and acne-prone skin. It contains omega-6 essential fatty acids and vitamins A and C, which work to increase cell turnover. It’s basically mother nature’s retinol, and in my opinion, is one of the most useful oils.
Many people shy away from oils because of the stigma surrounding oily skin, but all of these natural oils prove that we should embrace them instead of running away from them.
