My Every Day Makeup Routine March 09 2017, 0 Comments

It all Hurts
When I was in high school I discovered that my "sensitive skin" wasn't just another name for acne-prone skin. "Non-irritating" cleansers, shaving creams, lotions, and makeup brought me dry, burning skin on more occasion than one. I've now learned to use coconut oil for almost everything: shaving, removing makeup, and to moisturize my skin. But I cant exactly wear coconut oil in place of makeup.
Mascaras made my eyes burn, primers made my dry skin redder and flakier, and don't even get me started on foundations. Because of this, and my lack of $$$ to try the expensive, organic skin care lines, I went several years makeup-free. Throughout most of high school and the beginning of college, I would almost never wear anything on my face, and at most would use mascara when I didn't want to go out looking so drab. But thankfully in the last year I finally got the money and motivation to do some experimenting on what wouldn't make my skin angrier than it already is.
My Favorite Products
My absolute favorite product for my face is "Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer." This is my everyday go-to for very light coverage. It is very moisturizing for dry skin like mine, leaving my face looking fresh and dewy. It never clings to dry patches, sinks into pores or creases. (Note: One of my friends has normal-oily skin and still loves this product) I think the biggest thing it does for me is make my skin tone and texture look balanced and healthy, and the light coverage also makes me less conscious of my active acne and old acne marks. A tube costs about $40, but it lasts me about two months of everyday use. Totally worth it.
I usually add a matte look and slightly intensified coverage to the tinted moisturizer by patting on "Neutrogena Skin-Clearing Mineral Powder." I swear by this powder! I've used it for about a year and love how easily the color blends to match my own, and the light coverage it provides. This is another cheap drugstore product! Wahoo!
*For both the tinted moisturizer and mineral powder I use a wetted makeup sponge for application. This helps make the application even, gives extra moisture for my dry skin, and prevents the product from clinging to any dry texture. I notice huge improvements using this versus a dry brush or fingers.
For special occasions when I want medium-heavy coverage, I use "Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25hr Foundation." This is a very cheap drugstore foundation, but somehow does wonders for my skin! I never notice any irritation, and it's moisturizing without clogging my pores. The coverage is great, and it usually goes on very smooth. I discovered this foundation by googling articles about high rated foundation for acne-prone skin and will probably never use anything else. I would recommend this foundation for normal-dry skin, but not for oily skin.
Are these for you?
Finding the right products for me has been very hard, and as my skin changes in the future, my products will surely change again. My skin is very dry, and also dehydrated from acne-prone skincare products so this routine is specifically the best at keeping moisture in for me.
If you're looking for some new products that won't cause any irritation, I definitely suggest giving these a try! Hopefully, you love them as much as I do.
