If Everything You Eat Affects Your Skin, Would You Be More Cautious?

By: Nadia

A friend of mine once asked me “If everything you said appeared on your skin, would you be more cautious of what you say?” Like any other sane human would, I said yes. After all, I wouldn’t want rude comments written all over me, I would try my best to say the kindest words.

Thinking about it, I realized that question applies to all acne sufferers if the question were to be twisted a bit. Let’s change the question to “If everything you eat affects your skin, would you be more cautious of what you eat?” YES, YES, AND YES!

The truth is everything we eat affects our skin. It is not an “if” scenario, in fact, with acne, there is no “if” scenario.

When we eat processed, fried, and junk food it all shows on our skin. But why? When we continuously consume such, our liver slows down and it isn’t able to remove toxins efficiently. When there is a buildup of toxins in our body we begin to get pimples. It’s our body’s way of detoxifying the inside.

Some people fail to realize the liver plays an important role with hormones. If the liver is overloaded and it’s supposed to balance out hormones, obviously the hormones wouldn’t be balanced out! I’ve heard people say “My acne is hormonal I cannot do anything about it”. You can! Eating right and caring for your liver will restore your hormones back to a balanced state.

In order to detoxify your body, you could drink green smoothies. I began drinking green smoothies a couple of weeks ago and I feel great. I’m not going to lie and tell you it’s sweet and enjoyable because it’s not. But we’re not here to drink for the taste; we’re here to drink for the benefits.

Get a blender and put in a handful of spinach, a nub of ginger, a teaspoon of cinnamon, and a cup of water.  You’ll curse me the first time you try it, but you’ll thank me weeks later when your skin looks better.

Try eliminating dairy from your diet. Honestly, this was the hardest part for me. If you love dairy as much as I do, you’ll be able to swim in your tears once you see a friend or family member eating cheese.

Apart from taking care of your liver and eliminating dairy, drink LOTS of water and eat fruits and vegetables. I know you’ve probably heard this one before but seriously, it works! Everywhere you go, make sure you have a bottle of water with you. The only disadvantage to this is that you’ll use the bathroom every hour or so. Apart from that, you’ll feel great and your skin will thank you.
