Franklin and Whitman: Skincare for Sensitive Skin

Franklin and Whitman
by Kali Kushner

Frank and Whit is another one of those skincare brands I’ve been seeing all over Instagram and have just been dying to review! Whenever I see a brand blasted on social media I’m hesitant about believing it’s claims; are the posts paid, are they just trying to get their name out there, are the products really that good? What’s the catch here? I knew instantly that I had to get my hands on their products and test them out for myself.

When it comes to Frank & Whit their go to influencer tends to be a health or fitness instagram, at least from what I’ve noticed. Which, with being health conscious myself I can say I admire. It’s extremely hard to find products that work with sensitive, acne prone, and sweaty (from working out, duh) skin.

With brands these days there’s no shortage of promotional advertising on social media, making it difficult sometimes to determine the “trash” from the treasure. Luckily, in this case all of the glowing reviews are for very good reason. Frank & Whit goes beyond living up to the hype, they are the hype. Seriously, if you have sensitive and acne prone skin, just keep reading! If you’ve ever seen or heard of their products and thought for a second they weren’t legit- let me tell you they are very very legit. I’d even go as far to say they’re 2 legit 2 quit.

about frank and whit

Franklin and Whitman is an all natural, plant based, preservative free, and cruelty free brand that is focused on handcrafting amazing products for the modern lifestyle while using the best quality ingredients available. Their social mission is a huge driving force behind their brand! 5% of all Franklin and Whitman sales goes to dog rescue organizations. That means 5% of every single purchase made goes to helping dogs in need (a cause that’s very near and dear to many of our hearts)!

One of their biggest commitments is to keep products simple. In each product you’ll never find a long list of twenty or thirty ingredients, in-fact all of their products have less than ten ingredients! Frank & Whit never uses harsh or synthetic chemicals, instead they use ingredients that feed your skin and all natural products that help to nourish it!

the ultimate face care kit

Armed with a face wash, toner, facial steam & serum and one face mask, The Ultimate Face Care Kit is nothing short of an at home personal spa. If you’re looking for a one stop shop to clear skin or just to try out several different skincare products, the ultimate Face Care Kit is definitely worth investing in! With several masks, scrubs, and facial steams to choose from, you can completely customize your experience based on your needs (acne prone, oily, dry skin, etc!)

My customized kit included the cleansing serum face wash, filter square face scrub, the Jefferson square facial steam, the oak lane and queen village face masks (usually comes with just one but I got an extra), the laurel hill facial toner, and the walnut hill facial serum. After testing the whole system for about a month and a half I’d say I’m veryyyy ready to give my final thoughts!

the face wash

CLEANSING SERUM INGREDIENTS: Oryza Sativa Oil, Ricinus Communis Oil, Camellia Oleifera Oil, Calendula Officinalis, Olea Europaea Oil, Camellia Sinensis Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis Oil, d-Alpha Tocopheryl Oil (Vitamin E)

My Experience:

This face wash is phenomenal I’ve been using it for about a month and a half now and every time I use it my skin feels softer, smoother, and it looks brighter. It’s a really great option for removing your make up and cleansing your face all in one step. I found that it easily removes eye make up, foundation, lipstick, concealer, highlighter, and other make up products. I love that when I use this face wash I don’t have to use an additional make up remover or add another pesky step to my nightly routine, I can get a moisturized clean feeling just by using the face oil (and nothing else).

I would recommend this face wash for those who have sensitive skin, oily skin, and acne prone skin. I found that it didn’t irritate my skin or make breakouts worse, in fact it did quite the opposite. It’s really great for irritated or sensitive skin, very soothing to the touch, and leaves your skin feeling clean but not overly stripped of its natural oils.

the face scrub

FITLER SQUARE INGREDIENTS: Sucrose, Vitis Vinifera Oil, Cocos Nucifera Oil, Vanilla Planifolia, d-Alpha Tocopheryl Oil (Vitamin E), Melaleuca Alternifolia Oil

My Experience:

I’m not really a huge scrub fan but as soon as I opened the filter square face scrub I knew I was going to be in love. When I opt for a facial exfoliator I typically prefer a chemical version as compared to a physical one, this is because my skin is quite reactive and chemical versions typically get the job done without any dragging, pulling, or harsh scrubbing. When you open the scrub it naturally separates so you do have to mix it before you begin applying it to your face.

Once you have it in your hands you can smell the fresh scent, sort of like peppermint, and you can see the large granules of sugar! Again, typically this would have freaked me out as I don’t like physical exfoliators but, it smelled so good that I really didn’t care. After scrubbing a quarter size amount onto my skin and small circular motions for about five minutes, I removed the face scrub as instructed with a warm wet washcloth. The result left behind was clean, smooth, baby but soft skin. Seriously, the softest my skin has probably been in years. If you’re looking for insanely soft skin- look no further because it’s in a little jar called filter square.

the facial steam

JEFFERSON SQUARE INGREDIENTS: Organic Ceylon Cinnamon, Organic Cloves, Organic Hibiscus, Organic Orange, Organic Juniper Berries

My Experience:

I have to admit before trying the Jefferson Square facial steam I had never tried a facial steam before

in my life. When I got the package of course I was excited about all the products but the one that stood out to me the most among all the others was the facial steam. A mixed array of dried herbs and flowers, the facial steam appears to be a multi use bunch of dried potpourri. You could probably add it to a hot bath for additional healing benefits, can add it to a bowl of water as a facial steam, or could set a little bit in able to smell it throughout the day.

I only actually used it as a facial steam, but saw such amazing benefits that I wouldn’t be against putting it in my bath as well. I’ve always noticed that my face clears up after I shower or sweat during a good work out, so a facial steam in actuality really isn’t all that different. As your pores are opening and closing, it helps to release all of the trapped toxins from your skin.

It’s like a cleanse from the inside out! The scent is strongly of cinnamon, cloves, and hibiscus. It’s very relaxing and soothing, and you sort of just melt away with your head over a big pot of steaming water for about ten minutes, or as long as you can handle. I noticed that my pores appeared smaller and my breakouts looked less irritated after each facial session. Even without the skin benefits, it is a nice way to relax at the end of a long stressful day.

the face masks

OAK LANE INGREDIENTS: Rhassoul Clay, Theobroma Cacao, Curcuma Longa, Carbo Activatus

QUEEN VILLAGE INGREDIENTS: White Kaolin Clay, Avena Sativa, Carbo Activatus, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract

My Experience:

It typically takes me a lot to love a face-mask however with these each one is just as good as the other. With continued use of each mask I noticed smaller pores, less breakouts, and more clear, radiant skin. Both masks are clay-based so they do a great job of pulling out and absorbing excess oil and battling any acne in its path. If I had to choose just one I would go with the Oak Lane mask. I found it to be more soothing for my irritated skin AND it smells like chocolate?! Big win for me over here! I love that these masks or powdered form because their shelf-life is longer and you can sort of be your own chemist. What I mean by that is that you can mix whatever you want with the mask to get added benefits and desired consistency. Face feelin a lil dry? Mix with some honey! Got a few major breakouts? Give it a go with some apple cider vinegar! The world is your oyster.

the facial toner

LAUREL HILL FACIAL TONER: Organic Citrus Sinensis Hydrosol, Organic Cucumis Sativus Hydrosol, Organic Hibiscus Rosa Sinensis Hydrosol, Organic Hamamelis Hydrosol

My Experience:

I have to admit I’m kind of a rookie when it comes to facial toners. Face washes? I’ve tried Em all. Facial oils? I own them all! But toners, well I’m kind of lost. I mean I’ve got witch hazel, rosewater, and a few others for sensitive skin but I’ve never really seen the need for a fancy expensive toner. Sorry y’all, this one didn’t exactly win me over BUT I’ll still keep packing it in my gym bag and spritzing as a cool down after a big workout! It’s nice and refreshing but I didn’t notice any major skin benefits after using it.

the facial serum

WALNUT HILL FACE SERUM: Vitis Vinifera Oil, Argania Spinosa Oll, Rosa Canina Seed Oil, Punica Granatum Seed Oil, d-Alpha Tocopheryl Oil (Vitamin E)

My Experience:

The only thing I love more than face oils is facial serums, because I can layer them underneath my favorite facial oil. This facial serum is chock-full of the good stuff, vitamin E, Rosehip seed oil, and other great beneficial ingredients for your skin. I tend to use this facial serum only at night underneath my facial oils, but even just using it then I saw improvements within my skin in only a week. It drastically helped to fade red marks, hyper-pigmentation, and gave me an amazing even skin tone. I love this stuff! I don’t think it really did anything for breakouts (for me personally) but it definitely helped with the aftermath left behind!

In all I found my experience with Frank & Whit to be a very positive one! Based on everything I tried, I would definitely recommend them to anyone battling with skin issues. Their line is amazing at fighting acne while calming the skin (which can be hard to find).
