Having pale and fair skin is hard when summer rolls around. Even though you want to get tan and golden, you need to apply sunscreen whatever your skin color is! Even if you get tan naturally, the rays of the sun can still damage your skin and cause you to age faster or even put you at the risk of skin cancer. I know that being pale is hard to handle in the summer when everyone else is getting tan and you're just getting red but here are some ways to keep your skin healthy when it is prone to get damaged.

Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. the sun’s rays are the strongest, so if you plan on going tanning, you should go before or after these times. If you do have to be out in the sun during these times, try to limit the length that you are going to be exposed to the sun. Also if you are outside during these times, be sure to seek shade so you do not get burnt.

If you are someone who gets sun burnt easily, the best thing that you can do for your skin to avoid a sunburn is to cover up. This includes arms and legs. Wearing tightly woven clothes that cover you up will help tremendously with avoiding sunburn. UPF is ultraviolet protection factor, you can check this on the label of your clothing. It will tell how effective the fabric of your clothes blocks the sun. The higher the number, the better it protects you. Even though darker colors are hotter in the sun, they will protect you from the sun more than lighter colors. Also, you can choose to wear a hat which will also provide shade for your face. A broad-brimmed hat is the most effective, rather than a baseball hat or visor.

You should always wear sunscreen when you know that you are going to be in the sun for a significant amount of time. No matter what your skin type is you should choose a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or greater. You should reapply sunscreen every two hours to make sure that you do not get burnt. If you are swimming, you should apply it more often because it might become washed off.

If you protect your skin while you are exposed to sun rays, you will be protecting it from aging faster and avoid wrinkles that sun damage can leave on your skin.
