Three Tips for Clearer Skin

By: Khadija Dukes

Our skin is our largest organ and its health is largely dependent on how healthy we are on the inside. With these three tips, you will learn healthy habits that will improve your overall health and well-being so you can be well on your way to clearer skin.

Exercise

Exercising three to four times a week can vastly improve your weight as well as your skin. By getting your blood pumping on a weekly basis, your body will be able to sweat out any toxins and promote healthy circulation. Exercising also releases endorphins, which makes you feel happy, and helps to regulate cortisol levels. A reduction in stress is beneficial to those with acne-prone skin, so it is very important to hit the gym whenever you feel stressed-out. If you do not have access to a gym or prefer to work-out a home, jump-roping, bicycle riding, as well as at-home fitness videos are great options for getting in your cardio.

Diet

A healthy diet makes for a healthy body as well as healthy skin. Filling your body with fibrous green vegetables and sweet, juicy fruit gives your body the energy and nutrients it needs to function properly. Incorporating more fruits and veggies into your diet also ensures that the bad bacteria in your gut do not show up on your skin. Making a green smoothie once a day is a great and tasty way to get in the daily amount of vegetables and help to give your skin a nice glow. In addition to eating healthier foods, cutting out processed foods and greasy, fried foods will also improve your skin and make it less oily. As 80% of our bodies are made up of water, it is very important to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day to keep your skin and body hydrated and plump.

Sleep

When you do not get enough sleep at night you not only feel bad, but you tend to look bad as well. Getting an adequate amount of sleep not only allows you to feel well-rested and rejuvenated, but it also allows for your skin heal and repair. A lack of sleep can lead to oiler skin as well as slower cell turnover, meaning dull, acne-prone skin. Having 6-8 hours of sleep also gives your skincare products ample time to work and makes them more effective. Getting quality sleep each night will ensure that you wake up feeling refreshed and that you wake up with more vibrant skin.
