Tips and Tricks from an Expert Amateur

I’ve always loved reading up on “quick fixes”, and “overnight home remedies”. Anything that was quick and easy to do yourself, especially when it comes to skin care and beauty in general. If you search for a quick way to get rid of acne/pimples, the results are endless. When I say endless, I mean you’d have an arsenal of everything from Baking Soda and Visine to rose water, turmeric and possibly some potatoes in the mix. I can honestly say that I have tried even the strangest products on my face to get rid of acne.

With some first-hand experience and honest reviews, I want to share the best and worst of acne fighting remedies I have tried.

We will start with the worst so that I can make sure to have enough time to talk about the best.

Worst thing that I have ever decided to put my face through would have to be putting on a French Green Clay mask. I had heard rave reviews about the natural ability it had to absorb the oils, dirt, impurities, and everything else invading my face at the time. I used it as instructed and went to sleep. The next morning I woke up and my skin looked like I had been hit with a cactus. I know it had started pulling everything up out of my face and if I would have used it a few more times my face might have cleared up completely. Trying this out the night before a big wedding I was in charge of though, definitely not a good choice. White toothpaste overnight and waking up with burns all around a pimple, that is one to watch out for! I started watching all of these YouTube videos from beauty gurus and they all tried different face washes, so I thought I should try a plethora of face wash too. Not a good idea as my skin went haywire being scrubbed with a different wash every night. Try sticking to one if it works. One last terrible idea I had was to try a honey mask. This works great as honey has both anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties. I would recommend it to anyone; however, I made the mistake of applying it late at night and woke up the next morning looking like Lon Chaney Jr.!

On to the best things I have tried. After the French Green Clay mask I have been reluctant to buy anything that has dramatic abilities to pull out impurities. The Biore Charcoal Pore Strips worked wonderfully to absorb oil and impurities from my nose. Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin cleanser with Vitamin E made my face glow and I would recommend it to anyone. Oatmeal, honey, tomatoes, and lemon juice was an amazing at home remedy that I would also recommend to anyone. The natural properties of each ingredient worked together to make my face look a million times better each time I used the concoction. With the enormous amount of options to improve your complexion, be careful and do your research on each ingredient.
