Skin Care Hit and Miss Experiences
I wanted to share all of the products I’ve used to help heal my acne. I have been suffering from acne and eventually acne scarring for over 16 years. Although the list of products I have tried would be more suitable for a novel than a blog, I wanted to go over some of the ones I’ve either absolutely loved or would never recommend in a million years. My mom bought me Serious Skin Care products, Proactive, and Neutrogena products in my early teens. Once I stared working, I would scour the skin care isle of Target in hopes for the Holy Grail that would clear my skin up once and for all. I eventually explored the world of natural remedies. Never being able to afford a dermatologist or delve into the world of high end products, these are the experiences I have had with acne solutions, products, medications, etc.
I was about 16 or so when Proactive came out, I watched the infomercial and thought that was it. I am cured. My skin will go from an oily, pimply, terrible mess to glowing and clear! As soon as it came in the mail I went and tried everything in the kit and couldn’t wait to wake up the next day and do it again. The excitement lasted for about a week, after that, my face started going haywire. As if the cystic acne, numerous blackheads, and pools of oil were not abundant enough, I had even more! I started crying in the mirror and ended up putting on the green facemask from the kit just so I wouldn’t see my skin. I put that mask on every day after school so that I didn’t see my acne anymore than I had to. Proactive has had rave reviews and many people have seen success with it, but I couldn’t stick with it and once the facemask was used up I never used it again.
One product I used to use all the time in high school was Dry Lo from Serious Skin Care. I looked like a pink-spotted Dalmatian, but the promise of a dried up zit the next morning was good enough for me. I am not sure if they still carry that product, but I have seen a similar drying lotion from Mario Badescu.
Time after time, Clean and Clear would come out with a new spot cream that I thought would be one to rule them all. You name it I have tried it. For years I would just try anything new that came out at Target, Wal-Mart, etc. The cycle remained the same for years. Once I was in my early 20’s, I discovered natural remedies. My grocery store trips quickly morphed into a skin care trip. I came home armed with avocados, tomatoes, cucumbers, honey, plain yogurt, lemons, and even potatoes. They worked very well, especially the tomatoes. Soon enough, my skin would fight back with more acne yet again. Now I am in my late 20’s and my breakouts are gone for the most part, but the scarring is something that I struggle with every single day. I have seen amazing reviews on the derma rolling method and that is why I am ready to start a new chapter in my skin’s story
