Tips and Tricks To Get Rid of Oily Skin May 27 2015, 0 Comments

Moisturize: People with oily skin tend to think that they don’t need to moisturize due to the fact their skin is already so rich in oils. Not only that but they fear that their moisturizer will make their face look even shinier. This, however, is not the case. Oil production is the result of the lack of hydration in our skin and by moisturizing, the process in which moisture evaporates is slowed down significantly. As a result, sebum producing cells shut down since the moisture from your moisturizer is still on your skin and your body recognizes that excess oil is not needed. Grapeseed oil is a great moisturizer for oily skin because of it's astringent properties and it's very light so it absorbs right into your skin.

Blotting Sheets: If you suffer from oily skin you’ll know how frustrating it is to always look shiny when you’re out and about with friends and family. Luckily there is a temporary solution for this-- blotting sheets. Blotting sheets are a blessing; they come in small packages and are easy to carry. They can be found at your local grocery store, pharmacy, or mall. The Neutrogena “Deep Clean Long-Last Shine Control Blotting Sheets” are great since they are cheap, ultra absorbent and always leave my face feeling light and soft. If you are not willing to spend the money on blotting sheets, then use a toilet seat cover! It sounds strange and kind of disturbing, but as long as the toilet seat cover is clean; it will do the job.

Do Not Overwash: When you wash your face more than twice a day, you are stripping your skin of its natural oils and nutrients. As a result, sebum producing cells will feel the need to produce twice or triple the amount of oil your face truly needs.

Use a Facial Mask: Facial masks are a great way of getting rid of excess grime that has made its way deep into our pores. Without these deep cleansing treatments our pores would clog up and our body would produce large amounts of oil in order to combat that. My favorite homemade face mask for oily skin consists of 1 tablespoon of yogurt, 1 tablespoon of oatmeal, and ¼ of a cucumber. The cucumber must be peeled and pureed before it is added to the plain yogurt and ground oatmeal!

Limit Spicy Food Intake: Have you ever noticed that when you eat something spicy your skin tends to perspire? If not, then take my word for it. Having large amounts of spicy food can cause the production of excess oil which not only makes you look shiny, but can also clog up your pores.
